10. Or E (Tenor E) Review- An all round budget performer?

There have been a lot of smartphones in the sub ₹ 9,000 segment in the Indian market now and each one offers something unique in its own style. We have seen a lot of new brands entering the market but not all don’t get the pulse of the budget smartphone market in India. Some brands get it right and offer value for money devices and here is one such brand that has just entered the Indian smartphone market.      10. Or ( pronounced as Tenor ) is a new entrant in the Indian market and they have launched two new smartphones which are available exclusively on Amazon India. 10.Or E is the budget offering from the company and 10.Or G is the midrange phone from Tenor. In this article, we will be reviewing the former i.e., 10.Or E. Let us find more in this review.

Unboxing and Box contents:

The box has a minimalistic design with just the 10.Or branding and the specifications to the back. On opening up the box, you will find the 10.Or E smartphone itself which is then followed by the quick start guide, sim ejector tool, travel adapter and micro USB charge and sync cable. The colour combination used for the box is attractive. It is a combination of blue and yellow which is pleasing to the eyes.

Design:

The design of 10.Or E is quite similar to the other smartphones in the same segment. There is a 5.5 inch FULL HD Display to the front with the big chin at the top and bottom.  To the left side, you will find the dedicated SIM slot and a dedicated MicroSD slot. Yes, this smartphone supports the usage of DUAL SIM and MicroSD at the same time. To the right side, you will find the power OFF/ON button followed by the volume rockers. The placement of the power OFF/ON button is weird and it took us some time to get used to it. To the bottom, there is a MicroUSB charging port, a primary microphone and a speaker. The 3.5mm headphone jack is located on the top of the smartphone. To the rear, there is a 13 MP PDAF camera with a LED flash. It is then followed by a fingerprint sensor and the secondary microphone.

Display:

10. Or E sports a 5.5 inch FULL HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is a 2.5D display which is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The quality of the display is good and the visibility outdoors is quite decent. It is good to see a FULL HD display amidst the smartphones with just HD display in this price segment. There were no issues with touch response. The 2.5D curved glass blends over the edges and gives it a premium look.

Performance:

This smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 which is an Octa-core processor clocked at 1.40 GHz. It comes in two variants i.e., 2 GB RAM and 3 GB RAM. The one we tested was the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB Internal storage variant.

The phone runs on stock Android based on 7.1.2 Nougat. Tenor is kept it stock for the most part with just a few Tenor specific apps. The general performance of the device was pretty smooth for the most part. It was able to handle most of the tasks without any issues. But we did notice minor lag at times in the UI. It didn’t hinder the performance of the device though. This smartphone handled gaming also well without any issues. There were no frame drops in the games we tested and it handled it quite well. Moreover, the temperature remained under control and there was no excessive heating with this smartphone.

The 3 GB RAM in this phone helped to handle tasks thrown at it. The RAM management is quite good and it could easily keep 4-5 apps in the memory. Tenor has optimised the software well and the performance was good overall.

Camera:

10. Or E sports a 13 MP PDAF camera to the rear and a 5 MP front-facing camera. We tested the camera extensively in various lighting conditions and here are some of the samples taken with the smartphone.

As you can see from the above samples, the pictures taken in outdoors came out very good. There is a good amount of detail and the pictures taken are sharp. When the HDR mode is turned on, there is quite a bit of difference in the picture. The pictures taken in low lightning have noise and pictures came out dull. The pictures taken in semi indoor lighting came out surprisingly good. But if you don’t have stable hands, you will end up in a blurry picture. The selfies taken outdoors came out good and it also has a front-facing LED flash to aid in low light. But the selfies taken indoors aren’t that impressive.

Overall, the camera performance is quite good for the price. You can also check out our camera review that we posted below

Battery:

10.Or E packs in a 4000 mAh non-removable battery. The supplied charger in the box is a normal 5V 2A charger. This smartphone doesn’t support fast charging and we have tested with a third party fast charger. It should not be a deal breaker considering the price point at which this smartphone is selling.

The battery life on this smartphone was very good and it can easily last for 2 days with casual use. It can last a full working day with moderate to heavy usage. We got an average screen on time of 5 hrs 30 mins with 10.Or E. The smartphone charges in ~ 2hrs 40 mins from 0% to 100%.

Software:

10.Or E runs on stock Android based on 7.1.2 Nougat with a guaranteed update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Tenor has kept it stock for the most part with just a few Tenor specific apps like 10.Or care. As this smartphone is available exclusively on Amazon India, it comes preloaded with apps like Amazon Kindle and Amazon Shopping.10.or e

Speaker and Fingerprint scanner performance:

There is a mono speaker located next to the charging port and the speaker volume is decent. It could be easily blocked while playing games or consuming multimedia. The fingerprint scanner is located to the rear of the smartphone and there are no issues with the performance. It is very accurate and unlocks fast.
