Vivo took wraps off the V9 smartphone today at an event in Mumbai. We were invited to the launch and got to spend some time with the Vivo V9. Here are our first impressions of that smartphone

Design and Build Quality:

When we first took the phone and started using it for some time, the thing that drew our attention was the design and the display. The display looks amazing with vibrant colours. It is a FULL HD+ panel with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. As it is an edge to edge display, holding the phone was comfortable. Vivo has managed to achieve a whopping 90% screen to body ratio on the V9 smartphone.

The smartphone sports glass to the front and the back and the metal runs through the sides. The eye catchy thing to the front is the famous Notch. Yes, you heard it right. Vivo V9 has a Notch on the front which houses the 24 MP front facing camera and the usual sensors.

With the limited time, we spent with the device, our initial impressions on the design and build quality was good.

Camera:

It is too early to judge a smartphone’s camera performance without testing it thoroughly. Initial impressions, the front-facing camera was very good with vibrant colours and a good amount of detail.

The Notch:

Yes. You read it right! Vivo V9 comes with a Notch similar to the iPhone X on the front. It houses a 24 MP selfie camera and the usual set of sensors. Vivo says that the Notch helped to achieve the 90% screen to body ratio.

Software:

Vivo was talking a lot about the software on the V9 at the event. Vivo V9 runs FunTouch OS 4.0 on top of Android Oreo 8.1 which is the latest Android version. Kudos to Vivo for that!

When it comes to the software, Vivo has customized the skin heavily and added a lot of features. Some of the features include Game Mode which automatically hides the calls and messages when you are gaming in order to give an interrupt-free gaming experience. Other features like AI Smart Ringer, AI beauty face mode, stickers are also present on this smartphone. The front-facing camera has a lot of modes for the user to explore and customize the selfie before it is taken.

Vivo V9 is priced at Rs. 22,990 and will be available starting April 2. The prebooking starts on 23 March.
