Few year before getting access to the affordable mobile data in India was a dream for many. But today almost every individual in India is able to access the internet because of the data revolution started by Jio. I have been an early adopter of Jio and have been using Jio for 9 months. The speeds were great initially and really fast that it had the potential of replacing your existing home broadband connection.  Yes, that was how Jio’s speed was and it set an example for True 4G. 

But when Jio was rolled out commercially to the public, started a sudden dip in the data speeds. It became very slow that downloading even a small Whatsapp image was a nightmare. At the public rollout, it was promised that data speeds would be improved gradually and more towers would be set up. It doesn’t seem to be fulfilled till now and it is evident in the speed tests. But as it was free no one really cared about the speeds. Now as the free period ends and the paid subscription starts, still the speeds haven’t been improved.  The speeds hovered around 50-60 Mbps earlier and now it barely touches 4-5 Mbps which is not 4G speed.

What might be the reason for the dip in speeds?

The main reason for the bottleneck is the free data because of which the network isn’t able to handle a plethora of crowd

Jio has the potential of bringing back the amazing 4G speeds that were there earlier.  When Jio started many sensed that it had a lot of potential in it and could shake the telecom market. As expected Jio is doing it now but there are some major issues that Jio should address first.
