Qualcomm has been announcing a lot of new chipsets for smartphones. Few months before, Qualcomm announced a new addition in the popular 400 series chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 439. But we did not see many manufacturers incorporating the System On Chip(SOC) on their smartphones. Today Vivo launched Vivo Y95, a new smartphone from Vivo that is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 Processor. So, you might be wondering how this new chipset stacks up against the popular Qualcomm processors used in this segment, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, Snapdragon 625, Snapdragon 450 etc. In this article, we will be explaining what are the differences in Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Processor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 vs Snapdragon 636:

Architecture:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 is a 64-bit Octa-Core Processor that is built on ARM Cortex A53 technology. It is a 12nm processor which is a first from Qualcomm and it is built on the FinFET technology. The maximum clock speed on the new Snapdragon 439 is up to 2.0GHz. When it comes to DSP, Snapdragon 439 has a Hexa Core Snapdragon 536 DSP.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 is a 64-bit Octa Core Processor with Kryo 260 CPU and it is built on the 14nm technology. The maximum clock speed on Snapdragon 636 is up to 1.8GHz. When it comes to DSP, Snapdragon 636 has a more powerful Hexa Core Snapdragon 680 DSP.

The biggest difference between Snapdragon 636 vs Snapdragon 439 is that Snapdragon 636 has powerful Kryo CPUs which helps in faster CPU performance.

GPU:

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor comes with a dedicated Adreno 505 GPU. It has support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan, DirectX 11.2 and more. Adreno 505 is a capable GPU that is predominantly seen in budget-oriented smartphones.

The popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor comes with a more powerful Adreno 509 GPU. When it comes the day to day performance, you might not notice much difference between Adreno 505 and Adreno 509. In situations like intensive gaming, Adreno 509 will take a slight lead when compared to Adreno 505.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 comes with X6 LTE Modem. The X6 LTE Modem has features like 2×10 MHz carrier aggregation and 64 QAM. The peak download speeds are just 150Mbps and the peak upload speeds are as low as 75Mbps. The technologies that are supported in X6 LTE modem are LTE TDD, LTE FDD, LTE Broadcast, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, CDMA 1x, EV-DO and GSM/EDGE. The good thing is that this modem supports Dual 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi. When it comes to the WiFi technology, it has support for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks along with support for 1×1 MIMO. It has support for Bluetooth 5.0, USB 2.0 and more.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 comes with X12 LTE Modem from Qualcomm. Qualcomm X12 LTE modem is more powerful and efficient than X6 modem. X12 LTE can carry peak download speeds of a whopping 600Mbps and peak upload speeds of 150Mbps. It too has support for 3×20 MHz carrier aggregation and 256-QAM. Qualcomm X12 LTE Modem also has support for Dual VoLTE and VoWiFi. When it comes to WiFI technology, it supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with 1×1 MU-MIMO.

Qualcomm X12 LTE modem is faster than X6 LTE modem.

Memory:

The biggest difference between Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 is in the memory department. Snapdragon 636 leads Snapdragon 439 by a huge margin. Snapdragon 439 has support for LPDDR3 RAM, whereas Snapdragon 636 has support for LPDD4/4X Dual Channel RAM. The maximum RAM capacity is up to 8GB and it has support for UFS and eMMC storage.

Camera:

When it comes to the camera capability, Snapdragon 436 has support for Dual ISPs. Let us explain more on that. It can support up to 21MP on a Single camera and up to 8MP + 8MP Dual camera setup. With regards to video, it can record in 1080p at 30fps. There is no support for 4K video recording.

Snapdragon 636, on the other hand, has a dedicated Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP. It can support up to 24MP on a Single camera and up to 16MP on a Dual camera setup. With regards to video, it can record up to 4K at 30fps.
