When it comes to the SOC(System-On-Chip) on smartphones, the go-to choice by smartphone manufacturers is either Qualcomm or MediaTek. We have seen a lot of smartphones launched in 2018 incorporate MediaTek Helio P60 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 636/660. Both the chipsets from the respective brands have been very popular and delivered in performance and other aspects too. Yesterday, Qualcomm announced a new mid-range chip named Snapdragon 675 and Today, MediaTek has announced the successor to Helio P60, MediaTek Helio P70. In this article, let us see what’s different in Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 vs MediaTek Helio P70 chipset.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 vs MediaTek Helio P70
Architecture:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 is a 64-bit Octa-Core(8-core)Kryo 460 CPU that is built on ARM Cortex A76 technology. It is an 11nm processor and has 6 Efficiency Kryo Cores and 2 Performance Kryo Cores. The maximum clock speed on the new Snapdragon 675 is up to 2.0GHz. When compared to the previous generation, this chipset gives 20% boost in the overall performance.
MediaTek Helio P70 is a 64-bit Octa-Core chipset as well that is built on the 12nm FinFET process. It is based on ARM Cortex A53 and ARM Cortex A73 technology. The maximum clock speed on this chipset is up to 2.1GHz and with the faster clock speed, the chipset gives 13% boost in the overall performance compared to the previous generation.
GPU:
When it comes to the Graphical Processing Unit, Snapdragon 675 chipset incorporates the Adreno 612 GPU. The new Adreno 612 GPU has support for Open GL, ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan and DirectX 12. It also supports 4K video playback, H.264(AVC)Video Codec and the latest H.265(HEVC) Codec as well.
MediaTek Helio P70, on the other hand, incorporates an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU that has a maximum frequency of 900MHz and the maximum display resolution that is supported is 2160 X 1080 pixels. This chipset also supports H.264 and H.265(HEVC) Video Codec.
AI Engine:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 comes with a Hexagon 685 DSP which is a multi-core AI engine, claims to deliver a smarter and smoother user experience. It claims to deliver up to 50% boost in the overall improvements when compared to the previous generation.
MediaTek Helio P70 chipset comes with the new MediaTek NeuroPilot platform and when combined with the multi-threading scheduler, it claims to deliver 30% more efficiency when compared to the previous generation. It can support more complex AI applications like real-time human pose recognition and AI-based encoding.
Camera:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 can support up to 48MP pictures in which it can support up to 25MP on a Single camera and 16MP on a Dual camera setup. It also brings support for Triple camera setup with 5X Hybrid Zoom, Depth Of Field and more. When it comes to video recording capabilities, Snapdragon 675 can record up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@120fps. Snapdragon 675 brings in improvements in portrait mode, zero shutter lag and more.
MediaTek Helio P70 can support up to 32MP pictures on a single camera setup and 24MP+16MP pictures on a Dual camera setup. It improvises on the previous generation with better camera features including Hardware Warping Engine for EIS, real-time beautification, scene detection, and augmented reality(AR) capabilities.
Modem:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 sports the new X12 LTE modem with maximum download speeds of 600Mbps and maximum upload speeds of 150Mbps. When it comes to WiFi capabilities, this chipset supports 802.11ac Wave 2 WiFi standard with a peak speed of 867 Mbps. It also supports 2X2 MIMO Configuration and also the latest Bluetooth 5.0.
MediaTek Helio P70, on the other hand, sports a 4G LTE modem with download speeds of 300 Mbps. It also supports the WiFi AC standards. This chipset comes with CAT-7 DownLink and CAT-13 UpLink. In terms of Bluetooth connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy.
Both the chipsets support Dual 4G VoLTE.
